About Gear Precision Models

Gear Precision Models is a subsidiary of The Technology House. At The Technology House our Team uses state of the art equipment to perform New Product Development, Rapid Prototyping and production of plastic, urethane, cast and machined metal parts. Since Chip Gear started the company 3 years after retiring from the Navy, we have grown from 3 to over 60 people. These include his OS Master Chief and lead BT from his Command of USS CAPODANNO (FF 1093), as well as a number of other former military personnel.

Because of his interest in Model Building and History, Chip had our team of designers, engineers and technicians get together to create models of many of today’s current ships. We put the ships into 3D CAD and then built master models using a Stereolithography (SLA) Machine. A mold for hand casting pewter is then created using that model. We currently build a number of these pewter waterline ship models in 1/1200 and 1/700 Scale. All of our models are cast from lead-free pewter, finely crafted and hand finished in our facility just outside of Cleveland, Ohio.

We have also taken the model building into larger scales for display purposes. Here too we start by creating the ships, vehicles or other craft with 3D CAD. Then we build the models using our various rapid prototyping, machining and casting capabilities. These have been made for many corporate and military customers for use in displaying at Trade Shows, in Lobbies and in Offices. Several have also been made for collectors.

The evolution of our interest in things nautical and aeronautical has lead us to the creation of 3D Cutaway Models of Ships and Aircraft. Here again we take advantage of our engineering and design capabilities to craft highly detailed models of the various craft. The models are crafted from layers of quality Basswood which are intricately laser engraved to show the fine details.

Our interests and capabilities are not limited to these subjects. We have the ability to take on almost type of model project needed. If you can think it, we can build it!
